On World Environment Day, Samba’s Mansar set to host ‘zero pollution free events’

Jammu, Jun 4: To aware people on eco-friendly environment and save nature, ‘zero pollution free’ events are all set to mark the World Environment Day falling on June 5 to be celebrated at Mansar in Samba district of Jammu region.
The events are to be hosted by the Directorate of Tourism, Jammu in collaboration with JK Wildlife Protection Department and Surinsar-Mansar Development Authority (SMDA) under the theme ‘come and immerse in the lap of nature’.
Chief Executive Officer, SMDA, Nagendra Jamwal said that a mega event is to be organised at Mansar Lake with a motive to save nature and protect the environment by making people aware of their role in achieving the goal.
Focus of the programme on the occasion will be ‘zero pollution free’ events and all the events to be organised, will remain pollution free keeping environment view in mind, he added.
“Events like lake-walk, battery car ride, educational talks, local cultural programme, ethnic food in ‘doona-pattal’ to be served,” said the CEO.
Mr Jamwal added that bio degradable wooden boards and hoardings have especially been made for the occasion by the Pollution Control Board, which is a brainchild of outgoing Regional Director PCB Shally Ranjan.
Besides, cultural programmes including ‘geetru’ a folk song, going viral on social media with an appeal to save trees, written by a school teacher, Subhash Brahmanau will also be performed by his students, he added and said that Lake walk led by OP Sharma Vidyarthi, Director State Forest Research Institute will also be highlight of the programme.
He said that the participants will be ferried in zero pollution electric bus from State Road Transport Corporation from Jammu to Mansar via Surinsar through wildlife Sanctuary.
The CEO added that there will be no use of plastic bottles, thermocol made plates, glasses, adding, “instead the traditional Dogri food ‘dal, ambal, chawal, rajmash, halwa will be served in ‘pattal’ and ‘doona’ (plate and cup made of dry leaves stitched with small wooden sticks).
He however, added that experts in water management have also been invited while Panchayat members from Mansar, Surinsar and Chanani panchayats living around the International Ramsar Convention Wetlands of Surinsar Mansar will be special invitees.
