Apni Party Worker Shot Dead In Kulgam

LG ‘Anguished’, Mainstream Leaders Condemn

Srinagar, Aug 19: Unknown gunmen, suspected to be militants, shot dead an Apni Party worker at Devsar in Kulgam district of south Kashmir, officials said.

They said that the gunmen fired upon the AP worker, Ghulam Hassan Lone, at his home at Devsar. He was shifted to hospital, they said. However, official sources said that he was declared brought dead on arrival. A police officer confirmed to GNS the death of Lone in the firing incident and said that a case has been registered.

Meanwhile Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and several mainstream leaders including former Chief Ministers—Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti condemned the killing.  
 
“Anguished to hear about the terror attack on political leader Shri Ghulam Hassan Lone at Devsar,Kulgam.I strongly condemn this cowardly attack,” Sinha said in a tweet. “Perpetrators of this heinous act will be brought to justice very soon. My prayers & thoughts with bereaved family in this time of grief.”

National Conference Vice President and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted: “Very sorry to hear about the assassination of Ghulam Hassan Lone in Devsar area of South Kashmir. This renewed trend of targeting mainstream politicians by militant outfits is very worrying & I condemn the same in the strongest possible terms. May Allah grant the departed Jannat”
PDP Chief and former chief minister Mehbooba Mifti tweeted:  “Unfortunately there seems to be no end to the spree of political killings in Kashmir. Unreservedly condemn the killing of Apni party leader Ghulam Hassan Lone. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family.”

Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari expressed profound grief over the “barbaric killing” of his party’s “prominent worker”.

In a statement issued here, Bukhari termed the news as extremely unfortunate, saying that such attacks are intended to stop the “current ongoing peace process in J&K.”

“These reprehensible acts of violence are going to yield nothing but they only add to the sufferings of the people. Nothing can justify the cold blooded innocent killings.”
CPI(M) leader Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami also condemned the killing , terming the incident as unfortunate he said that there is no justification to kill any unarmed person.

He expressed sympathy with the bereaved family, as per a statement issued here.
“Strongly condemn the killing of @Apnipartyonline leader Ghulam Hassan Lone in Kulgam,” People Conference president and former minister on BJP quota in erstwhile state government, Sajad Gani Lone said and termed the recent spate of attacks on mainstream leaders was “worrying”.

“Violence only brings miseries to people. Such killings only create more widows and orphans. These heinous acts must cease.” (GNS)
